For about £76, I tested ASUS’s latest travel router and it genuinely surprised me. It’s a dual-band Wi‑Fi 7 pocket router with USB‑C power and a 2.5G WAN port, but the real story is that it’s not “just for travel.” When you log into the web UI, you realise it can act like multiple products you’d normally buy separately: a router, a repeater, an access point, and more. For the money, it’s basically the same price as a decent Wi‑Fi 7 repeater from a reputable brand—except this can do all the roles. I walk through WISP mode (the classic “steal Wi‑Fi” feature—only for legit public Wi‑Fi, obviously) where the router uses an existing wireless network as its internet source, then you connect all your devices to your own private network. That’s also handy for splash pages: pay once, then keep your devices isolated behind the travel router. I also show AP mode performance and why USB‑C power makes it easy to deploy anywhere (even via PoE adapters), plus bridge mode to give older wired-only gear the benefits of Wi‑Fi 7. The most “goated” feature for me is VPN back home. I upload a WireGuard config, and wherever I am, I’m basically “at home” on my network—pinging my router and accessing my server like I’m sitting in my office.
