It’s been a great year so far for tech, and honestly, a great year for this channel too — but with so many uploads, some genuinely brilliant bits of kit are going to slip under the radar. So in this video I did a quick roundup of some of the coolest (and in a few cases, cheapest) smart home, CCTV and networking gear I’ve tested in 2025, and why it actually matters in real installs. I start with the Aqara MMW (millimeter wave) sensor, because it’s way more than a basic motion sensor. It can tell where you are in a room, and it does proper occupancy detection even when you’re sat still — which makes automations feel “smart” instead of annoying. Then I jump into the UniFi G6 PTZ, which is basically a security camera on steroids: dual lenses, pan/tilt/zoom, and a 22x optical telephoto that I thought would be a gimmick… until I used it. I also cover the OBSBOT Tiny 2 Lite for meetings on my clamshell desk setup, the ridiculously good-value TP-Link AX1500 travel router, the CalDigit Element Hub that runs my whole desk, and a bonus mention of the UGREEN DXP4800 Plus NAS that’s quickly becoming the storage brain of the studio.
