About This Video

I’ve been robbed more than once, so I’m under no illusion that cameras magically stop theft. What they do give you is peace of mind, a solid deterrent, and—if you build it right—a system that’s actually usable day to day. In this video I walk through my 2025 UniFi Protect home security setup and why I think Ubiquiti deserves more respect in the CCTV space. For me it’s not “just cameras”: it’s AI alerts, proper 24/7 recording, PoE installs with no battery faff, and even automatic gate/door access when the system recognizes a vehicle. I break down the “brains” of the setup (recorders like the UDM Pro Max vs Cloud Key Gen 2 Plus and larger NVRs), the sensor/camera side (from discreet G5 Flex-style cams to PTZ units and gate bullets), and why AI is the make-or-break feature. The big win is reducing false alerts—no spider notifications—and making search actually fast with detections, scrubbing, and “find this thing” style queries. I also show how the AI Key and newer G6 cameras unlock the scary-good stuff like facial recognition, license plate recognition, and Alarm Manager automations (yes, including my ridiculous bird-scaring routine).
