Projectors have come a long way, and in this video I put that into perspective by comparing a dirt-cheap TikTok Shop projector (about 30 quid) with what I’d call a proper DIY flagship: Epson’s EF72. On paper, they both “project an image,” but in real life it’s not even close. The cheap one is soft, the focus drifts every time you use it, and you basically need a pitch-black room to see anything—plus it’s the kind of gadget that’s fun for five minutes and then forgotten. The EF72 is the opposite vibe: it’s a piece of furniture that just so happens to throw up to a 150-inch 4K image with HDR10 and HLG, and it’s packed with the stuff that actually makes projectors usable day-to-day. The killer feature is the auto calibration system: a small camera and sensors handle autofocus, keystone, and screen fit so you can plonk it down, power it on, and be watching in about two minutes. Add Google TV, Wi‑Fi/Bluetooth, surprisingly good Bose-tuned speakers, HDMI 2.1 with eARC, and 120Hz with ALLM, and it’s basically the most “normal person friendly” big-screen setup I’ve used for 2025—especially in that 80–100 inch sweet spot.
