In this video, I break down a very common confusion in teacher training: pedagogy vs andragogy. Pedagogy is the approach we usually associate with teaching children—more teacher-directed, with structured guidance and a curriculum that’s largely decided by the instructor. Andragogy, on the other hand, is about how adults learn, and it leans heavily into self-direction, relevance, and using the learner’s prior experience as a learning resource. I also explain what changes when you move from “teaching kids” to “teaching adults.” Adults typically want to know why they’re learning something, they prefer learning that solves real problems, and they respond better when they can bring their own context into the session. The takeaway is simple: don’t just copy-paste classroom methods into adult learning or teacher PD. If you align your lesson design to the learner’s age, motivation, and experience level, you’ll get better engagement and better outcomes—whether you’re teaching in schools, online, or in professional training settings.
