Beauty on TikTok was actually insane this year, so I decided to put the most viral trends on trial and rank everything as a slay or a nay. I start with the “makeup like the year I was born” look (2002), and… yeah, unfortunately it was a nay for me. Then we get into the hacks that look satisfying online but are questionable in real life—like whipped foundation (yes, I literally went to the kitchen, broke my frother, and still made it happen). It whipped, it frothed, it looked like a vanilla foam cold brew… and it blended like rubber. Nay. But don’t worry, it’s not all chaos and disappointment. I tested a TikTok Shop K-beauty Roman lip trio that actually ate (slay), tried brown mascara for a softer, more natural vibe (slay), and did the “all I have on is lipstick” full-face hack that shockingly worked if you pick the right shade (slay). I also made the giant DIY “jumbo” lip gloss using an empty Halo Glow container—reduce, reuse, recycle—and even though it smelled like coffee-lemon-deodorant-cigarettes, the color was a cute nude, so I had to give it a slay. Finally, I tried the viral Sachu peel-off lip stain (big slay) and the Kopari SPF 50 setting mist that people swear burns their eyes… but on me? Iconic glow, no eye fire. Slay.
