On the EFX settings page there’s an “input bus” option that normally routes Input FX into Bus 1, then 2, then 3/4. That way your internal samples can get treated on Bus 1 while the external input stays clean (or just hits Bus 2).

My go-to is Cassette Sim on Bus 3 into 303 Vinyl Sim on Bus 4. On Cassette Sim I’ll often run around 19 drive and push wow/flutter (I like movement), and I basically never use “catch.” Then on 303 Vinyl Sim I’m not chasing the vinyl sound—I’m using it for the easy, one-knob compressor vibe, usually around 50–60 with noise at zero.

Should I send dry pads to Bus 3/4 on the SP-404MK2?

Accepted Answer

If you’re going to use a Bus 3/4 mastering chain like mine, yes—send those “white” dry pads to Bus 3 so they still hit the glue. If you leave them truly dry, they won’t even go into Bus 3 and 4. Routing them into Bus 3 makes everything feel more consistent in the final mix.
