About This Video

In this video I’m checking out what I honestly think is the best gaming IEM money can buy right now: the Kiwi Ears Astral. I’ve been dailying these for about 10 days, and even though they’re “mid-level” on paper, I can easily see them being endgame for a lot of people at $299. I go through the unboxing (pretty minimal like the Kiwi Ears Odyssey/Ziigaat-style experience), talk build/comfort, and then break down the sound using the tuning/graph points that stand out the most—especially that 15k “sparkle” that hits you immediately. Sound-wise, the Astral is all about clean, airy treble, crazy separation, and a really holographic 3D stage. The tradeoff is the mids are a bit more recessed than what I’m used to on the Odyssey—vocals can feel farther back—but the upside is you hear more of the background instruments and the atmosphere of the track. Bass is rumbly and textured with great sub-bass, but it does lack a little punch. For gaming (Valorant specifically), this is the best set I’ve tried: gunfire doesn’t get boomy, footsteps stay clear, and the imaging lets me track enemies behind walls with scary accuracy. It’s also easy to drive (Apple dongle works), and it still sounds great at low-to-mid volume.
