The Spin Clean has been around since the 1970s and many vinyl collectors consider it the default record washer. But HumminGuru clearly think they can improve on that idea… Patreon: (Including Online Record Store Chat) ____________________________________________ https://www.patreon.com/soundmatters For some time now, I’ve been looking for a set of bookshelf speakers for my living room setup, and when Fluance released the Ri71s, they immediately caught my eye. They’re self-powered, with a range of input options, and they also have a front-firing bass port, which was key to my search. So are they any good? Let’s take a look. About This Video

In this video I put the new HumminGuru EZ Record Washer head-to-head (in spirit, at least) with the old default many of us know: the Spin Clean. I’ve owned a Spin Clean for years and recently revisited it, so the timing was perfect to see if HumminGuru have genuinely improved the classic “basin washer” idea—or if this is basically the same thing in a different shell. I walk through setup (including a quick warning about installing the handle the right way round… I was a bit of a muppet and had it backwards for weeks), then I clean a couple of test records with before/after listening samples. What stood out immediately is the user experience. The EZ is dramatically easier to rotate—one-handed, smooth, and effortless—thanks in part to the clamp system (no rollers, no adjusting for 12", 10", or 7") and the goat hair brushes that flex as you turn. I also love the integrated drying rack and how everything nests together for storage. Results-wise, it knocked off surface dust and fingerprints with no trouble, and it even improved a pretty abused Beatles EP (no miracles, but a clear step up). Bottom line: I think it’s a resounding success. It’s a great budget-friendly washer on its own, and it’s even better as a pre-clean before ultrasonic (Nova/Degritter) where the basin wash does the heavy lifting and ultrasonic becomes the icing on the cake.
