But ever since buying my first vacuum record cleaning machine, it has since been in storage and I've certainly tried many a record cleaning machine since then, including ultrasonic record cleaning. So after all these years, I dug my Spin Clean out of storage to see if it still holds up as a great cost effective way to clean a lot of records on a budget. The results surprised me. About This Video

I dug my Spin Clean out of storage and gave it a proper revisit after years of using vacuum record cleaning machines and ultrasonic cleaning (including the Degritter). The Spin Clean was actually the first thing I ever featured on this channel, so it felt only right to see if this 1970s classic still holds up as a genuinely cost-effective way to batch clean records—especially for collectors who simply can’t justify the price of a full-blown machine. In the video I run through the basics quickly: distilled water, solution on the pads, three turns clockwise and three anticlockwise (more if the record is truly disgusting), then dry. I also explain why I swap the supplied cloths for e-cloths to avoid lint. Using a moderately dusty Bob Marley record and an absolutely grim “pub survivor” as test subjects, the Spin Clean does what it promises: it cleans records pretty well and makes light work of big cleaning sessions. But I also show the limits—when a record is noisy because of groove wear and scratches, no cleaning method (not even an ultrasonic heavy cycle) is going to magically fix that. My takeaway: the Spin Clean is still a solid budget recommendation if you want to clean a lot of records, and it can remain useful even after you upgrade—many people keep it as a secondary rinse basin. Just remember: every record behaves differently, and sometimes results require repetition rather than a single pass.
