In this video I went out and bought a whole bunch of different inner sleeve options to figure out which ones are worth your hard-earned money, and which ones are, quite frankly, more deserving of the bin than your record cabinet. I start with the problem: most new records still arrive in basic paper inners with no lining, and those can act like sandpaper, build static, trap dust, and even contribute to micro-scratches during shipping. At an absolute minimum, I think you should be swapping those for something polyethylene-lined. From there I get into my personal preference: the so-called “MoFi style” rice paper sleeves (even though there isn’t actually rice paper involved). They’re gentle, anti-static, and low friction when you’re taking records in and out of jackets. I compare the usual suspects—MoFi, Invest in Vinyl, Big Fudge, Spin Care—and then I show you the sleeves that, for me, are the clear winner: Vinyl Storage Solutions 3 mil. They’re thicker, the finish is flawless, the fit is neat and snug, and once you’ve used them, the original MoFi style can feel a bit cheap. I also cover VSS’s clear inner sleeve options for picture discs and colour vinyl—different lips, flaps, and resealable designs—because making those more interesting records pop is half the fun. Bottom line: thicker “rice paper” style sleeves for most records, and clear inners when you want to show off the collection.
