As Fosi Audio move to release their first ever turntable, the Luna 3, I received two pre-production models to check out. Join me as I review the development of this much anticipated product so far. A product that started as a kickstarter fundraiser. But, is it ready yet? Have they worked out some of the earlier bugs? About This Video

In this video I take a proper look at Fosi Audio’s first ever turntable, the Luna 3—two pre-production samples, real-world use, and honest feedback on whether it’s actually ready for market. On paper, the concept is exactly what you’d expect from Fosi: hi-fi aspirations, a clean minimalist look, and a price that doesn’t break the bank (the late pledge/early bird pricing was just under $300). You get a VM95E with a detachable headshell, an acrylic platter, belt drive, adjustable anti-skate, no built-in phono stage (which I actually think is the right call), and some genuinely nice touches like solid rear terminals, a grounding post, and even a trigger output. But as it stands, I can’t call this “ready yet.” Across both units I ran into repeat issues: motor noise (especially noticeable at 45 RPM), visible platter wobble (which to me is asking for wow and flutter), and some serious quality control problems with setup—azimuth being badly out and cartridge alignment off enough that it skipped immediately. I was able to fix it because I’m no stranger to alignment, but the steps required (including getting into the guts of the tonearm assembly) are not what a typical buyer at this level should be dealing with. I want Fosi to succeed here—there’s a lot of potential—but they need to iron these basics out before it can compete with something like a Fluance at the same money.
