About This Video

In this video I finally get to one of the most-requested reviews on my channel: the Audio-Technica LP70. It’s an entry-level, fully automatic deck that clearly builds on the long-standing LP60 formula, and the big question I wanted to answer was simple—does the LP70 set a new standard for fuss-free, beginner-friendly automatic turntables? I walk through what’s actually changed, and by a country mile the biggest upgrade is the longer J-shaped tonearm with the integrated VM95 cartridge. The improved geometry means more accurate tracking (especially in the inner grooves), and Audio-Technica has also added a proper cue lever, a tonearm lock, and a more modern, slick enclosure. Around the back, the move to proper RCA connectors plus a ground terminal makes it feel like a more serious product than the LP60’s cheaper-feeling output. Setup stays almost completely plug-and-play—belt on, platter on, and you’re basically away. I also address the earlier skipping “saga” and share my experience (no skipping in my testing), then get into real listening impressions across a mix of records. Bottom line: for roughly $50 more than the LP60 Bluetooth model, I think most people should wait, save a few quid, and go LP70—while the LP3 still remains my core recommendation if your budget can stretch that extra step.
