Ableton Live 12.3 has just baked Splice directly into Live’s Browser, and honestly, it’s one of those updates that instantly fixes a real-world workflow headache: sample selection. In this video I jump into Live and show you Splice sitting right there in the Browser—log in, and you’re good. The big win is instant previews that stay in sync with your session, so you can hit play on your track and audition loops and one-shots in time without switching windows or killing your flow. I walk through searching by instrument, genre, and key (like setting everything to C minor), then dragging sounds straight into the project. Previews don’t touch your credits—credits only get used when you actually drag a sample in—so you can audition loads of options properly. I also demo “search with sound,” where I drag in something like a drum kit and Live/Splice pulls up similar samples that fit, with filters for things like drums and genres (yes, I even say “just drums please,” very British of me). I also test it with an acapella: it’ll analyze tempo/key and suggest loops, and while it’s not perfect, it’s genuinely fun and gets you moving in the right direction fast—even on the free Splice plan.
