Most electronic drum programming loops everything in neat fours, so every part resets at the same point and you get bored after a few bars. Bonobo does the opposite: he uses loop lengths that don’t line up, so the pattern keeps shifting and you can go a long time before anything repeats exactly the same. I set this up directly on the Ableton Push 3 standalone using the clip editor. First, I take a standard one‑bar hat pattern and turn it into a five-beat loop (holding Shift so I can change length in beats), then I use step velocity to create subtle dynamic variation so it doesn’t sound like copy/paste MIDI.
