Treasury Guest Lecture: Productivity in a Changing World Series - David Teece

About this presentation A conversation with economist Professor David Teece, who is a specialist and thought leader in industrial organisation, technological change, and innovation. This seminar provides a unique opportunity to delve deeper into David’s insights on New Zealand practices and the potential opportunities for innovation and transformation in New Zealand business and innovation ecosystems. Tim Ng, Strategic Economic Advisor at the Treasury, will talk with David about the implications of his dynamic capabilities approach to developing competitive advantage, defined as “the ability to integrate, build, and reconfigure internal and external competencies to address rapidly changing environments”. David will also discuss some of the findings of his most recent work on dynamic capabilities and capacities of public institutions and the implications of global and regional challenges for public trust in them. Think about the areas of David’s work which you most want to explore further, as there will be an opportunity for questions from the audience. About the presenter David J. Teece is the Thomas W. Tusher Professor at the Institute for Business Innovation at the University of California, Berkeley’s Haas School of Business. He is also the faculty director of the school’s Tusher Initiative for the Management of Intellectual Capital. He has authored over thirty books and two hundred scholarly papers. David has received eight honorary doctorates and has been recognized by Royal Honours. David has a PhD in economics from the University of Pennsylvania and has held teaching and research positions at Stanford University and Oxford University. He received his Master of Commerce degree from the University of Canterbury in Christchurch. David has over thirty years of experience as an active consultant performing economic, business, and financial consulting services to businesses and governments around the world.
