I made my phone boring — and it helped me use my phone less, stop doomscrolling, and get my life back. In this video, I share simple phone settings that reduce screen time, kill distractions, and help you focus without self-control or deleting social media. If you feel addicted to your phone, stuck in endless scrolling, or overwhelmed by notifications, these digital minimalism tips can help. I show how I use Focus Mode, limit social media time, turn my phone grayscale, mute unnecessary notifications, and add friction so my phone works for me, not against me. This isn’t about quitting technology or switching to a dumb phone. It’s about using your smartphone consciously — so you have more time, clarity, and attention for real life. About This Video

Every time we unlock our phone, it lights up, asks for attention, and quietly trains us to react instead of choose. In this video I walk through the exact “boring phone” setup that helped me stop years of doomscrolling—without deleting every social app or turning my phone into a brick. The goal isn’t to hate technology. It’s to use it consciously, so your phone works for you instead of pulling you around all day. I start by muting the notifications that are basically just noise—promotions, updates, random alerts—because most of them add zero value. Then I use Focus Mode (Digital Wellbeing on my OnePlus 8 Pro) to pause distracting apps and hide their notifications, and I schedule it so my phone protects my work time automatically. I also set simple time limits (I keep most social apps at 10–15 minutes) because limiting time is more realistic than extreme “monk mode.” To add friction, I disable tap-to-wake/raise-to-wake, turn on grayscale (especially in the evening), and simplify my home screen with Niagara Launcher so social apps aren’t one tap away. If this saves you even one hour a day, that’s your life coming back—one intentional choice at a time.
