About This Video

When most people hear “Japan,” they think anime, samurai, robots, sushi. Same. But what actually impressed me was how people live—calmer, more focused, less stressed—even in a busy environment. In this video I break down 6 Japanese habits I tested that genuinely simplified my day-to-day and made me feel clearer and (surprisingly) more productive. None of these require moving to Japan or buying fancy stuff. They’re small rituals that fit into a normal life. I start with Danshari—saying no to new clutter, getting rid of what no longer serves you, and separating from the constant urge to accumulate. Then I talk about Rajio Taiso-style morning stretching: just 5 minutes of simple movement right after waking up to wake the body up and flip the brain into “let’s go.” I also tested Shinrin-yoku (forest bathing): leaving my phone at home and spending time in nature with zero input, which felt like my nervous system finally switched into recovery mode. From there it gets practical: Hara hachi bu (eating until 80% full), sleeping early and waking early to reclaim that quiet first hour, and the evening bathing ritual—my version is a long hot shower since I don’t have a tub. The real lesson: it’s not about adding more. It’s learning to need less and live more.
