In this video I’m doing a true first impression of the new Stam Pultec-style EQ (MEQP-1AS+ / PEX vibe) that lets you switch between a solid-state path and a tube path. I literally patched it in on a loop at unity—everything at zero—because I wanted to hear the “box tone” difference before even touching any boosts or cuts. And yeah… I was not expecting this much of a change with no EQ moves. At unity, the tube circuit immediately makes the low end beefy, bigger, round, and more present. The solid-state path, on the other hand, opens up the top end, stays cleaner, and keeps the low end less colored. When I flip back and forth, the difference is crazy: tube gives you that massive weight, but solid state brings more transient and punch on the kick—way more focused. It honestly feels like having two EQs in one, and the solid-state focus even reminds me of that API-style punch. I’ll do a proper full video later, but if you’re thinking of upgrading to the version with both tube and solid state… just do it.
