This waterfall in Dupont Forest is off the beaten path; especially when compared to the other waterfalls in the area: High Falls, Triple Falls and Hooker Falls. Ride your mountain bike if you want to get there even faster (and explore even more miles of the park.) 👪 I’d consider it family friendly if the little ones can handle the mileage. If you have heavy duty tires, I’d think this route could work for strollers or wheelchairs as well. Start in the High Falls/Visitor’s Center area parking lot and walk past the [most popular] trailhead that leads you to High Falls. It looks intimidating, but just walk around the gate and start walking down Buck Forest Road. This road is closed to public vehicles but you might see a Forest Vehicle and likely several cyclers on the road. You’ll walk about .5 mile before reaching the covered bridge that overlooks the top of High Falls. Just after the bridge, you’ll take a right onto Conservation Road and walk down that for about another mile. Hang a right at Bridal Veil Falls Road and walk approximately .5 miles. You’ll pass an old farm area and re-enter the forest. There is a wooden platform from where you can view the falls but the view is a bit obscured by the trees. You’re going to want to walk down closer to the falls themselves. ⚠️ You’ll see a warning sign since people have died or been injured here. Be mindful and know that you are exploring this area at your own risk. The base of the falls is surrounded by a bunch of large rocks. I feel pretty safe rock hopping when they are dry but wouldn’t do it if the rocks were really wet or icy. 🧘 This is also one of my favorite places to meditate! Fun fact: part of the Hunger Games was filmed in this area. Go back to the parking lot the same way you came. If you still have several more miles worth of energy, you can go see 1, 2 or 3 additional waterfalls (in order High Falls, Triple Falls, Hooker Falls) by taking a right on the Covered Bridge Trail or the High Falls Trail from Buck Forest Road before you get back to the parking lot; although these falls will likely be a lot more crowded. If you already know you have the energy to do 10 miles in one trip, you can do those three falls first and save the least crowded Bridal Veil Falls for last. ⚠️ Dupont State Recreational Forest is technically located in Cedar Mountain, NC which is pretty close to both Brevard and Hendersonville and around an hour from Asheville. It’s a super popular park with limited parking so get there early on the weekends and/or go on a weekday. ❄️ 🌼 ☀️ 🍁 🌧️ Recommended for all weather/seasons. 📸 November 2021
