If you’ve been subscribed to my channel for a while, then you know I have been very transparent about the fact that I have experienced unexpected job loss multiple times due to being fired or terminated. When it first happened – without notice, mind you – I was ready to start a war. Since I didn’t get a warning, I swore up and down it was illegal and I planned to file a lawsuit. After doing a little bit of digging about Illinois employment, I learned and educated myself about “at-will” employment laws. I discovered that even though my job had fired me, without notice, and for no reason, it wasn’t illegal. In fact, that’s EXACTLY what at-will employment means. Contrary to popular belief if you work in an at-will state, companies are allowed to end/terminate your employment for ANY reason, at ANY time, and they aren’t required to give you a notice, heads up, or warning. In this video, I give a short yet succinct overview of at-will employment and give information on: - Which U.S. states are at-will employment states - How employees can also take advantage of at-will employment laws - When you CAN sue your employer for terminating your employment Be sure to like, share, and SUBSCRIBE! __ Want more career content from me?
