Fun, unfortunate fact about myself: I was bullied…. A LOT growing up. The saying “kids can be so cruel” couldn’t ring truer for me when I was younger. I’m confident, self-assured, and dripping in self-love as an adult Black woman, but it took a long journey to get here. Growing up as a brown-skinned Black girl with prominent Black features made me an easy and frequent target for bullies. I was taunted relentlessly for everything: - My full nose and lips - My skin tone - The texture of my kinky 4C hair - Having a slim frame as a Black girl & so much more. As I continued my therapy and healing journey, I uncovered how bullying has created challenges and barriers in my career. ___ TIMESTAMPS: Intro – 0:01-2:30 When I started getting bullied and what for - 2:33-7:23 How being bullied made me super smart – 7:26-8:37 How being bullied silenced me – 8:40-8:56 My mom stood up to my bullies – 8:58-9:39 I became introverted and struggled with speaking up for myself – 9:47-10:31 Being bullied hindered my leadership skills – 10:36-12:21 Being bullied made it hard for me to say no – 12:24-14:11 Being bullied robbed me of confidence – 14:17-16:00 Being bullied made me a natural over-worker - 16:07-18:00
