In this Thanksgiving Prep Live (Part 1), I’m hanging out with y’all and doing a little “real life” prep for tomorrow—nothing too heavy because we’re invited over to my aunt’s house. But my husband requested turkey and dressing at home, so I’m getting my basics started: chopping celery and onion, boiling them down for my dressing, and getting my small turkey ready for the oven. I’m also chatting with everyone in the comments, talking holiday plans, and sharing what I’m cooking vs. what I’m saving for the next day. I walk you through how I build flavor for my dressing: I like to use turkey drippings plus chicken broth, and I mix in one can of cream of chicken and one can of cream of mushroom. I also season my celery/onion boil with poultry seasoning, onion powder, and salt-free seasoning (y’all know I use very little salt). For the turkey, I keep it well-seasoned, lay carrots and onion in the pan, add a little water for steaming, and I even slip butter into the turkey because turkey can be dry. Before I hop off, I let y’all know I’ll be back to finish up—cornbread tonight, and dressing tomorrow so it stays fresh.
