In this video I’m getting into some of the most overhyped fragrances and perfume houses (in my opinion), and I’m keeping it honest while still being respectful—because at the end of the day, it all comes down to taste. I talk through the scents that get nonstop praise in the fragrance community, but that I personally find challenging, too sweet, or just not worth the hype when it comes to how often I’d actually reach for them. I start with Amouage Guidance, which I know a lot of people call intoxicating and sexy, but on my skin it’s been really hard to love—there’s something in that jasmine/overall DNA that reads almost sour and a little “BO” to me. Then I chat about the Donna Born In Roma DNA (including the flankers), which I find too sweet and kind of sickly, and Kayali, where I totally respect the marketing and the viral appeal, but I often get juicy, shampooy, designer-sweet vibes that I don’t reach for. I also explain why Creed feels overpriced and lackluster to my nose, and why Angels’ Share is just too boozy, heavy, and apple-cinnamon-rum sweet for me—though I do love Angels’ Share Paradis. To balance it out, I share brands I think are hyped for good reason, like Parfums de Marly and MFK.
