Day 5 on the Vermont Long Trail felt like stepping into a storybook — with enchanted mossy forests that look straight out of a fairy tale, a real-life treasure hunt unfolding on the trail, and relentless rock gardens that tested every step. After spending the night at one of the busiest shelters yet (complete with scouts, bonfires, and bear boxes), we set off on a tough 10 km hike through constantly changing landscapes — from root-covered climbs to soft pine-needle trails. Along the way, we meet Greg, a hiker on a mission to find a hidden treasure, talk about trail life and bear-hanging hacks, and fight through blisters, back pain, and elevation gain to reach a breathtaking lookout. This was one of our hardest but most magical days on the trail — full of beauty, struggle, and unexpected moments that remind us why we hike in the first place. 📍 Trail: Vermont Long Trail 📆 Day 5: Final night before heading back to Manchester 🥾 Distance: ~10 km 🌲 Highlights: Treasure hunting, enchanted forest vibes, rock gardens, trail shelter tour, backpacking tips, trail struggles & triumphs #VermontHiking #backpacking #outdooractivities
