In this video, I’m answering a viewer question that came up after my last chat about literature-based learning: do modern books ever have a place in a Charlotte Mason/Classical homeschool? I share why this topic can get misunderstood, especially when we treat “classic” as automatically good and “modern” as automatically bad (or vice versa). For me, the bigger issue is what we mean by studying literature—what we’re asking our kids to do with a book, and what kind of ideas and language they’re soaking in. I walk through how I think about classic vs. modern choices, and how I try to keep my approach aligned with the spirit of Classical and Charlotte Mason education—rich language, worthy ideas, and thoughtful reading. I also talk about how literature study can look in a real homeschool without turning into busywork, and how to choose books with clarity and purpose. My goal is to help you feel confident building a literature-rich homeschool that isn’t driven by fear or trends, but by wisdom and intentionality.
