Skills are markdown files with precise instructions that teach Claude Code how to perform tasks it can't do natively, like generating images and optimizing UI design. You will learn the difference between skills, MCP servers and custom commands, how to find and install skills from marketplaces like skills.sh, and how to create your own custom Claude Code skills using the skill creator. We also cover advanced topics like securely handling API keys with environment variables and combining skills for complete workflows like AI image generation, image optimization and frontend design. ⏰ TIMESTAMPS: 00:00 Claude Code Skills demo and overview 00:54 What are skills and how they work 01:47 Skills vs MCP servers vs custom commands 03:00 Why skills save context window tokens 03:38 Building a fitness app landing page without skills 04:02 Installing skills using the plugin marketplace 04:49 Browsing the Anthropic GitHub repository 05:44 Installing skills from skills.sh 07:55 Installing multiple skills for your project 08:37 Viewing installed skills and token usage 09:46 Using the frontend design skill to fix UI 11:00 Browser use skill for verifying changes 11:29 Adding AI image generation to Claude Code 12:34 Creating skills with the skill creator 13:02 Using Nano Banana Pro for image generation 13:06 Free open source image generation alternative 15:55 Handling API keys securely with env variables 17:46 Testing the custom image generator skill 19:01 Image optimization skill for web performance 20:40 Final result and wrap up #claudecode #vibecoding #agenticcoding

About This Video

In this video I walk you through Claude Code Skills—what they are, why they matter, and how to use them to extend your coding agent with capabilities Claude doesn’t have natively (like generating images). Skills are basically markdown files with very precise instructions plus any supporting resources (scripts, docs, UI guidelines). I also break down the difference between skills, MCP servers, and custom commands, because people mix these up all the time: MCP servers add tools that sit in context, custom commands are reusable prompts, and skills are auto-activated workflows that Claude pulls in only when needed. Then I go hands-on: I install skills from marketplaces (Anthropic’s GitHub repo and skills.sh) and show why skills are so token-efficient—Claude keeps the context window lean and only loads the big skill files when it actually uses them. From there I use a front-end design skill to fix a bland “AI slop-ish” landing page, verify changes with a browser-use skill, and then build my own image generation skill using the skill creator. Finally, I cover the right way to handle API keys (env vars, never hardcode), generate a hero image, and create an image optimization skill to convert the output to high-quality WebP for the web (dropping a ~600KB image down to ~56KB).
