Guys, we’ve been lied to — we’ve been using reverb wrong this whole time. In this video I break down a “modern” way I picked up from Streaky that’s been giving me that polished, buttery, radio-style vocal sound without pushing the vocal back or washing it out. The main switch is simple: instead of doing the usual “stick reverb on a send and pray,” I’m putting the reverb directly as an insert on the lead vocal. And I’ll be real, it didn’t sit right with me at first because I’m always banging on about using sends to save CPU… but this works. I’m using Valhalla VintageVerb with specific starting settings (around 0.62 decay, 7.3ms pre-delay, and a low mix—my sweet spot landed around 8.2, while Streaky’s preset mix was 15.6). Then I tame and glue that verb into the vocal using FabFilter Pro-C2, only doing about 1dB of compression with moderate attack and release. The whole point is: the reverb becomes part of the vocal tone—wider, sweeter, more expensive—while still staying upfront and clear. Copy the settings, then tweak to your track and BPM if you want, but this trick is instant levels.
