In this video I’m playing “Freaks” by Surf Curse as a piano cover, but I also layered in bass so it hits with that indie drive the original has. I’m sharing the sheet music too, because if it sounds good, I’ll play it—and I want you to be able to learn it without guessing notes off the screen. The whole point here is a clean, playable arrangement that still feels like the song. On the bass side, I’m using my Fender Jazz Bass through a Tech 21 SansAmp VT Bass DI to get that solid, slightly gritty foundation that sits under the piano without fighting it. For recording, I’m running an AKG C214 and keeping things stable with a K&M stand, plus a Gruv Gear FretWrap to keep extra string noise under control.
