In this video I review the new Thieaudio CYPHER flagship headphone and put it head-to-head with a bunch of “older legends” and common buyer picks: HD600, HD6XX/HD650, HD660S2, Hifiman Sundara (2022), Edition XS (briefly), Ananda Unveiled, and Beyer DT 900 Pro X (plus why I’m skipping some of the other Beyers stock). I also talk build, comfort, accessories, staging, and where each one lands in my value/tier-list mindset. Sound-wise, the CYPHER is basically a “better HD650/6XX” idea done correctly: warm, smooth, vocal-forward, but with more clarity in the vocals, sharper transients/imaging, and better sub-bass extension so it hits deeper and feels more dynamic. The tradeoff is it still keeps that more intimate, forward presentation—so don’t buy it expecting Sundara-level air or a huge soundstage. Versus HD600, it’s closer than I expected: HD600 is cleaner and more open, but CYPHER can be the more fun pick for rap/hip-hop/pop/R&B because of the extra body and slam. My final take: not a “value monster,” but it’s not overpriced either—correctly priced if you want that HD650 vibe with more resolution and a more premium build.
