In this video, I take a look at TP-Link's new WiFi 7 outdoor wireless access point-- the Omada EAP772-Outdoor. If you are familiar with UniFi products, this AP is similar to the U7 Pro Outdoor. There are a few differences between EAP772-Outdoor and the U7 Pro Outdoor: the Omada AP supports omnidirectional 6 GHz unlike the U7 Pro Outdoor. If you have your outdoor AP in a more centralized location and have devices that rely on the 6 GHz spectrum, this could be an important feature to consider for your deployment(s). Another diffrence is that the Omada AP has a weather rating of IP68 whereas the UniFi AP has an IP67 rating. Depending on the environment where the AP is being deployed, the higher level rating may be a desired requirement. Speed testing the EAP772-Outdoor proved to be challenging because something has changed with my environment at home so I was unable to reach the maximum throughput in BOTH directions for the EAP772 as well as other WiFi 7 APs that I have tested in the past. I'm not quite sure what is going on, but I was still able to get some respectable speeds compared to WiFi 6. I do not fault the EAP772-Outdoor for this outcome because it's an issue that is plaguing me with even other APs as well. Disclosure: TP-Link sent me the Omada EAP772-Outdoor wireless access point for demonstration purposes, but opinions are my own.
