A while ago, I bought the Radxa Router HAT for the Raspberry Pi 5 for experimentation. I was curious how well the Radxa HAT performed knowing that the Raspberrry Pi 5 PCIe x1 interface is limited to about 5-6 Gbps, which should be adequate for saturating both interfaces in one direction (2.5 Gbps up or down). However, with full duplex communication, for dual 2.5 Gbps interfaces, you would need 10 Gbps of available bandwidth if you wanted to saturate both interfaces bidirectionally since each interface is capable of 5 Gbps (2.5 Gbps up and 2.5 Gbps down). Therefore, there are some limits to using this hardware if you plan to fully saturate both interfaces at the same time. In reality on most home networks, it's likely not very often you will be fully saturated bidirectionally on multiple interfaces. Note: This is a project that is more suited for those who like to tinker than it is a practical router solution for general consumers. Disclosure: This video is not sponsored by anyone. I bought the Rasbperry Pi 5 and the Radxa Router HAT for projects such as this. Spoiler alert: I could reach full 2.5Gbps (2.35 Gbps actual) in one direction and bidirectionally, I could get between 4.1-4.4 Gbps, which is a little shy of the max throughput I've seen on Raspberry Pi 5 PCIe interface (throughput is about half that if PCIe 3.0 is not enabled in the config so don't forget to enable it!).
