I have tried out a number of KVM over IP (and USB) devices on this channel. In this video, I try out a KVM over IP device produced by the well-known company, GL.iNet. GL.iNet is typically known for their travel routers, but they have created their first KVM over IP device called the Comet. The Comet runs a modified version of PiKVM under the hood. The device itself feels pretty solid as it is constructed of metal rather than plastic. The most notable feature that is advertised on the product webpage is 4K 30fps video resolution. However, initially I was only able to select up to 2K resolution until a recent firmware fixed this issue! You can now select the EDID which allows selecting a 4K display, which is awesome. The quality of the video image was quite excellent when set to "ultra quality". The 2K/4K resolutions are not downsampled to 1080p like some other IP/USB KVM devices that support higher screen resolutions. This device may be my go-to KVM device for performing screen captures for videos I produce on this channel since it supports high quality 4K screen captures. Disclosure: GL.iNet sent me the product free of charge, but they did not see the video before it was released.
