About This Video

In this video I answer the question I know everyone’s thinking: how much do program managers usually make? Straight to the point, I’ve seen the range land around $70K to $200K, but I break down why that range is so wide—because it depends on what type of program manager you are, what industry you’re in, and what level/tier you’re hired at. I also give my disclaimer: I’m not an expert, this is just my personal experience, so please use this as one data point and do your own research too. I talk through technical vs non-technical program managers (technical usually gets paid more, especially with an engineering/software background), and why tech tends to pay higher because it’s more scalable. Then I get into total compensation: base salary, bonus (sign-on vs annual), and equity/stock options—because you have to look at the full picture, not just base. And no gatekeeping: I share my own journey from a $22/hr marketing internship to negotiating a program manager offer from $80K to $92K base, then growing to $98K and $108K base over time, plus a $24K annual bonus. I’m grateful, and I’m also big on salary transparency—because we’re all trying to survive out here, and negotiation matters.
