If you’re looking for a macro lens this 2025 but you don’t want to spend macro lens money, I tested what I think is the cheapest macro lens solution you can do for APS-C cameras—Sony, Nikon, Canon, Fujifilm, even Lumix. The “lens” I’m talking about is actually a close-up/macro filter you attach in front of your current lens, and it only costs around $5 to $10. In my case, I paired it with my Sigma 16mm f1.4 (yeah, I know it already has a good close focusing distance, so it’s kind of semi-macro), but the filter is the key that pushes it into legit close-up territory. I used a Knight X close-up filter and checked the quality with real-world tests. You’ll see the focusing distance becomes very minimal, meaning you need to get really close, but the results look surprisingly clear and sharp even wide open—I was at f/1.8 in my test. The biggest takeaway: for product videography, product placement, and quick creator shots, this is a super good buy and saves you a lot of bucks.
