Let’s really talk about the struggles of living in Nigeria as a Black American woman. In this honest sit down, I open up about what the past year has truly been like for me living in Lagos with my Nigerian husband. Social media can make moving to Nigeria look glamorous and easy, but there are real challenges that nobody talks about, and today we are getting into all of it. ➡️ I share my experience with inconsistent electricity and what it actually costs to secure 24 hour light through generators, inverters, or solar panels. If you are thinking about relocating to Nigeria, you need to understand that reliable power is not automatic and comfort can come at a high price. We also talk about police harassment in Nigeria and what it feels like navigating frequent stops, requests for money, and unnecessary stress on the road. This has been one of the hardest adjustments for me coming from the United States, and I explain exactly why. Finding healthy food options in Nigeria has been another major struggle. From heavy rice based meals to fried foods cooked in palm oil, I had to completely rethink how I eat and even hire a private chef to maintain a healthier lifestyle. If you are planning to move to Nigeria long term, diet and food access are things you should seriously consider. ➡️ I also discuss being overcharged as a foreigner, learning the dollar to naira conversion, and understanding how pricing works in markets versus grocery stores. And finally, we get into the reality of renting in Nigeria, paying yearly rent upfront, finding estates with treated water, security, and stable electricity, and how expensive comfortable living in Lagos can actually be. This is not to discourage you from traveling or relocating to Nigeria, but to give you the full picture so you can move wisely and prepared. ⏰ Book Your Consultation Call With Me Below⬇️ https://calendly.com/gabbyvilla/nigerian-visa-15-min-consultation-call-with-gabby 💬 If you are thinking about moving to Nigeria, which of these struggles concerns you the most? About This Video

In this video, I’m sitting down and giving y’all the real, unfiltered truth about what living in Nigeria has been like for me over the past year as a Black American girly—because social media will have you thinking it’s all vibes and aesthetics. I’m talking about the stuff that genuinely wore me out: inconsistent light, police harassment, finding healthy food, getting overcharged as a foreigner, and the stress of finding a good estate to live in with treated water, security, and decent electricity. First, the light situation is not for the weak. If you want 24-hour power, you’re going to pay for it—generators, inverters, or solar panels can run about $3,000 to $7,000. Then we have police harassment… level 10 for me. The constant stops, the unnecessary searches, and the begging for money is a hard adjustment coming from the U.S. On top of that, I struggled with food because so much is rice, pasta, and fried meals cooked in palm oil—so I hired a chef to keep my meals healthy. I also break down why you must learn dollar-to-naira conversion so you don’t get taken advantage of, and the reality of rent in Lagos—yearly payments upfront and comfort can cost you. I’m not discouraging you, I’m helping you move wisely and prepared.
