I’m super excited because in this video I’m giving you my “please don’t forget” checklist before you fly into Nigeria—especially if it’s your first time. The biggest thing I need you to have sorted out is your visa BEFORE you enter Nigeria. A lot of people still think they can fly in and do visa on arrival, but you guys, we do not offer that anymore. I live in Nigeria as a Black American girly, so I stay on top of the most recent, real updates to help you avoid getting stuck or stressed at the airport. I break down the two main ways to get your Nigeria visa: the traditional application where you apply online and then go to a physical center for biometrics (photo + fingerprints), which can take about a month and a half but may get you a five-year visa; and the e-visa option, which is quicker, easier, and less hassle if you don’t want to go in-person. I also recommend setting up airport assistance for Lagos, Port Harcourt, or Abuja so someone can meet you, move you to the front, and help you through immigration and customs. And don’t forget your health prep—typhoid, yellow fever, and malaria medication are my top three to have lined up before you land.
