That is very, very irritating. In this video I break down the real options for staying connected in Nigeria, based on what I went through when I first came over from the United States and had to figure out my phone situation the hard way. I’m super honest about international plans with Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile, because baby… they can get expensive fast. When I had T-Mobile, I asked for an international plan and still ended up with a hefty bill—especially from calling the U.S. directly from Nigeria. My best recommendation is to use a Nigerian physical SIM or an eSIM if your phone is fully paid off and unlocked. If your phone isn’t paid off, you may need to bring a cheap unlocked backup phone (I’ve done that—Amazon or eBay) and pop your Nigeria SIM in it. And please, use WhatsApp for calls and messages so you’re not burning money on international calling.
