A lot of you guys have been asking me to talk more about college and computer science, so in this video I break down my personal “top 5 programming languages for students.” Quick disclaimer: this list is 100% subjective, and I’m not pretending I know everything—I’ve only been in school for about 3 years and I’ve only done internships. The goal is just to give you a solid starting point and some context from what I’ve seen in classes and at work. I start with Python because the syntax is simple, it’s easy to read, and you don’t have to stress about low-level stuff like memory management. It also covers a ton of areas like web dev (Flask/Django), data science (Jupyter Notebook), and machine learning with libraries like pandas, scikit-learn, numpy, and seaborn. Then I talk about JavaScript for building interactive websites and even full-stack apps with stacks like MEAN/MERN, plus frameworks like React and mobile development with React Native. After that, I get into Java for a strong CS foundation (OOP, data structures, interview prep), and then C + Go for understanding low-level concepts and performance/scalability (especially for microservices). For the last “language,” my real take is: fundamentals matter more than the specific language—once you get the concepts down, picking up new languages gets way easier.
