As you can tell from the title, I finally made my first big boy purchase: a 2021 Tesla Model Y (silver/dark gray outside, white interior). In this video I walk through my whole buying process—honestly it felt like ordering something on Amazon. I placed my order in July with just $100 down, skipped FSD because it’s another $10k and it’s not even done yet (plus my friends who bought it said it wasn’t worth it), and then dealt with the delivery date getting pushed back multiple times. I also share what pickup day was like and why Tesla deliveries tend to land near the end of the quarter. I also go over my first thoughts after driving it, and why I genuinely don’t think I can switch back to a normal car. It’s not just “EV = good,” it’s the tech and the driving experience: the acceleration is insane, the big tablet UI is super clean, and having built-in apps like YouTube/Netflix/Spotify feels way better than typical CarPlay setups. I cover practical features I’ve been using like the frunk for groceries (and safety in places like SF), home charging, setting a charge limit for battery health, Sentry Mode (with the battery tradeoff), phone key + app controls, and one-pedal driving that becomes natural after a day or two.
