Hey everyone—it's Allen with Earthglow. In this video I’m walking you through how I made these “signs of spring” hydrostone candle vessels in a lavender-blue pigment, and then turned them into strong, clean-burning concrete-style candles with a sparkle finish. I start with my hydrostone mixing method (pigment into water first, then add the dry hydrostone) because hydrostone is way more particular than Cement All when it comes to getting color to disperse evenly. I also talk safety and why I’m comfortable doing hydrostone indoors (trace silica vs. the bigger silica concern with Cement All), plus the huge perk: hydrostone sets up fast. Then we get into the annoying reality: efflorescence. I’m not claiming a magic cure, but I show my water-bath sanding experiment right after unmolding and why I think it noticeably reduces that fingerprinty/streaky look—especially compared to sanding days later or not sanding at all. After that, I paint the bases with diluted/undiluted acrylic metallics to build depth, and I seal for both function and aesthetics. My favorite part: making a sparkle varnish by blending Earth Safe Finishes Preserver/Sealer with mica. Finally, I pour the candles with CB-2 wax and share the exact pouring habits that helped me get basically zero air bubbles—slow pour, one-and-done fill, and a quick pass with a crème brûlée torch. The fragrance is marketed as “bamboo and rain storms,” but to me it reads true-to-life hyacinth—my personal sign of spring.
