In this video, I’m talking about something that can feel really hard as a homeschool mom—letting go of having 100% control over curriculum choices. I totally get the urge to want to pick everything yourself (especially when you’ve done the research and you know what’s out there), but I share why I believe our kids should have more input as they get older. This isn’t about letting them run the whole show—it’s about guiding them with wise options and letting them help choose from there. I explain how I still do the legwork first: I research, I narrow things down, and I give my kids a set of choices I’m comfortable with. Then, I let them weigh in, because that buy-in matters. When they have accountability for what they choose, it often changes their attitude and effort. My big takeaway is that curriculum decisions can be a training ground for responsibility—especially in middle school and high school—while still keeping mom in the driver’s seat when it comes to standards, fit, and what’s realistic for our homeschool.
