About This Video

Sometimes it’s really hard to find a budget projector that checks all the boxes, but in this video I put the Wimius G1 to the test and it honestly surprised me for around $230. I unbox it, go over the ports and physical features (like the lens cap and the ability to prop it up), and then walk through the built-in official Google TV setup. The big win here is you’re not forced to use an HDMI stick for streaming—Google TV is already on-board with all the usual apps, and the UI felt pretty snappy with minimal lag. From there, I do the real-world tests people actually care about: brightness with ambient light vs a dark room, fan noise, speaker volume, and a video/color test. You get three brightness modes (standard, eco, and high brightness), and I recommend high brightness if you have any light in the room. My fan noise reading was about 43 dB from 3 feet away—pretty average for this price. The standout for me was the audio: the 20W speakers were clear and loud enough to drown out the fan. Overall, if you keep it closer to the wall for better color and contrast, I do recommend the Wimius G1.
