About This Video

Welcome back to DA Griffin Hobby—my name’s Dave, and in this one I’m talking about the Allentown Spring Thaw Train Show. I went on Saturday and it was absolutely packed, probably because everyone was trying to beat the storm that was forecasted for Sunday (and yeah… it hit hard—record snow by me). It was wall-to-wall people early on, which is honestly great to see because it means folks are still going to train shows. After lunch it opened up a bit, so I could move around easier, talk to friends, and actually enjoy the hunt—though I didn’t even have time to check out the layouts, let alone film them. I did come home with some stuff I’m really excited about: the Three Rails pickup truck for “dad’s pickup truck” (my buddy Dell Hudson grabbed it for me), and a Public Service wrecker truck gift from my buddy Martin—because what’s a fleet with only one, right? Dell also surprised me with a really nice Pennsylvania Railroad engine shed with details like removable roof and doors, and that’s going to end up on the layout somewhere once it’s warm enough to spend more time out there. Then it’s “what did Dave buy,” and the big score was an MPC-era Baltimore & Ohio RDC set in great shape with original box and paperwork. I’ve wanted more RDCs to run with my cherished postwar one, and this was a better deal than buying a single car. Next step is getting everything cleaned up, deciding what’s powered vs dummy, and getting the whole consist on the rails together.
