About This Video

In this video I’m showing you my new filming setup for recording repair work at my bench. The lighting in my room is still awful (I’m working on it), but I wanted to walk through the camera choices because a few videos back I mentioned I needed a dedicated bench camera for my business repairs. I did the research, and I originally thought about a DSLR like my main camera, but it just didn’t feel flexible or small/light enough for how I move around the bench. I ended up landing on the InstaLink 360 4K webcam because the quality jump is massive compared to the typical 1080p webcams. I show the difference between my Logitech C920, the InstaLink, and even my phone running through DroidCam OBS while I test different methods in OBS (there is a bit of delay and I’m still figuring out the best settings). I also talk through a real-world hinge failure example—how strain on cheaper laptop hinges can pull the lid apart because the lid structure isn’t reinforced. Next step is ordering epoxy resin and getting a proper mount so the bench cam angle is consistent and the repairs are easier to follow.
