I bought a 10Gb/2.5Gb multi-WAN router from Alter Labs (shout out to Tim on eBay). It’s similar to UniFi in the sense you run a Docker container that acts as the controller for the router. I’m planning a full video on how it behaves in a real rack setup.

Can the Alter Labs router use 10Gb as a WAN port?

That’s one of the big differences I want to test properly—being able to use the 10Gb port as WAN. My current uplink is 2.5Gb, and obviously my actual internet speed is limited by the fibre plan, but there’s still a lot I want to try with the interface and routing side. Because it saves you when things go down and you don’t even notice. I’ve got a 5G backup connection I want to load balance with, and it already proved useful when some devices were down and it switched over without me realising. The biggest issue isn’t the process of setting things up—it’s the ROM. The fake global ROM on these tablets is basically a custom ROM (Lenovo ROM with extra languages and tweaks), and it’s not properly updatable. It even shows up as NEC, and I’m going to do a full breakdown because others are hitting the same wall.

One path is fully unlocking the bootloader and moving to something like a GSI ROM.
