A pretty crazy find up here in Northern Wisconsin yesterday! After watching this video, what do you think the cause of death was on this fish? I personally think this fish died from spawning stress and not a catch. Spawning stress is a documented condition that can kill fish of various species, especially fish that are towards the end of their life span. That said, if muskies are already on the verge of life and death during the spawn, then obviously targeting the during this phase and catching and releasing them could potentially be much more deadly than it will be later on in the season. The DNR confirmed that some muskies are still being seen that are still full of eggs as of May 12th so at least some muskies have not spawned yet. Just something to consider before you go out and target them early in May!
