In this video I’m showing you a super practical thing that will save your live set (and your recordings): matching the BPM of your preset to the BPM of the song/loop/STEM you’re playing to on the Valeton GP-200. I use the built-in drum machine as my “tempo source” just to demonstrate the problem clearly, but this applies the same way if you’re running backing tracks, stems, or loops from a DAW. When your preset BPM is off (like my preset sitting at 84 while the groove is at 110), your time-based effects—especially delay—start to feel muddy and you can hear everything fighting. I walk through two ways to get locked in. First, the best case: during rehearsal, simply ask whoever controls the loop/stems for the exact BPM, then set your preset tempo to that value (I type in 110). Second, the real-life scenario: you’re on stage and you don’t know the BPM—this is where tap tempo comes in. I’ve got tap tempo configured on my top fourth footswitch, so I can tap the tempo in quickly and get close enough to stay musical. Once the preset BPM matches, the delay sits right in the pocket and everything feels tight and professional.
