I start by searching for VS Code, grabbing the official “Download for Mac” from code.visualstudio.com, and unzipping the download. Then I copy the Visual Studio Code app into the Applications folder so it shows up properly in Launchpad and behaves like a normal Mac app. After VS Code is installed, the real quality-of-life upgrade is enabling the terminal command so you can launch it straight from the command line. Inside VS Code, I hit Command + P, type ">" and then “shell” to find the option to install the “code” command in PATH. You’ll enter your password, and once it’s done you can verify it with `code -v` to confirm the install and version.
