In this video I’m showing you how I use the Hammy effect on the Valeton GP200, and what you need to understand before it actually sounds “record-ready.” First thing: you’ll find Hammy under the W block, and you need to activate that W block with your expression pedal. Out of the box it gives you a +1 octave range with controls like harmony, volume, and position—so we’re basically dealing with pitch shifting that you can sweep in real time. I break down the ranges (from -2 oct all the way to +2 oct) and how the position control behaves. The big tip is this: when position is below 50, you’re hearing the negative/oct-down side, and when you push it beyond 50, you’re hearing the oct-up side. I demo how it reacts on different frets, and why the +1 octave is what you hear on most records—but not just “static.” If you want it to sound nice, you have to pitch into it with the pedal. I also show what harmony does (it duplicates your dry guitar and adds the pitched signal), and a trick a lot of people miss: you can use position in small amounts (like 10, 20, etc.) to shift by semitones, which means you can fake alternate tunings with the Hammy/pitch effects. If you’re trying to fix that weird sound, my quick solution is: turn harmony off, pick +1 octave, then dial the position to taste.
